Barricade The Beach protest

On 9th October, SOS Whitstable turned Whitstable Beach into a crime scene, in a protest against Southern Water that an estimated 2,000 people attended.

We were joined on the day but a number of guest speakers, including local MP Rosie Duffield, Ash Smith from Windrush WASP, author Julie Wassmer, several local councillors and with music from folk hero Beans on Toast.

Before the speeches, we asked the crowd in attendance to link arms and barricade the beach and we played a loud siren and read out a series of damning statistics about Southern Water’s record on sewage pollution

The crime scene theme was a direct nod to the continued illegal releases into the sea off the coast by Southern Water, which show little sign of relenting.
